Laurent Blanc Lined Up To Replace Sir Alex Ferguson At Manchester United - Report

Girondins de Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc is reportedly head of the queue to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United when the ageing Scot decides to hang up his chewing gum.

According to The Sunday Mirror, the rise of Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 is said to have placed him in pole position for the coveted spot on the Old Trafford bench, ahead of Inter coach Jose Mourinho and Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz.

Ferguson himself is believed to be an admirer of Blanc since his playing days, when he ended a glittering career with a two-year stint at United.

If health permits, the 67-year-old is expected to continue holding the Red Devils' reins until the end of next season.

A club insider allegedly said: "Replacing Sir Alex will be the toughest job since Matt Busby left the club.

"It isn’t just about winning at United. It’s about playing the game the right way and upholding the traditions.

"There is a lot of admiration at Old Trafford for the job Blanc has done at Bordeaux and the style of play he has imposed.

"It is no secret at the club that he became close to Sir Alex when he was a United player. There is still a lot of mutual respect."

Blanc will turn 44 on Thursday - incidentally, the same age that Sir Alex was when he took command in the red half of Manchester.
